Patient Medication Information: uses, side effects, how to take - Dalacin C Phosphate
What DALACIN C PHOSPHATE is used for:
DALACIN C PHOSPHATE is used for the treatment of serious bacterial infections.
Antibacterial drugs like DALACIN C PHOSPHATE treat only bacterial infections. They do not treat viral infections such as the common cold. Although you may feel better early in treatment, DALACIN C PHOSPHATE should be taken exactly as directed. Misuse or overuse of DALACIN C PHOSPHATE could lead to the growth of bacteria that will not be killed by DALACIN C PHOSPHATE (resistance). This means that DALACIN C PHOSPHATE may not work for you in the future.
How DALACIN C PHOSPHATE works:
DALACIN C PHOSPHATE belongs to a class of medicines called antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of the bacteria responsible for your infection.
The ingredients in DALACIN C PHOSPHATE are:
Medicinal ingredient: clindamycin phosphate
Non-medicinal ingredients: benzyl alcohol, disodium edetate, hydrochloric acid (for pH adjustment), sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment)
DALACIN C PHOSPHATE comes in the following dosage forms:
Solution: 150 mg / mL
Do not use DALACIN C PHOSPHATE if:
you are allergic (hypersensitive) to
- clindamycin
- lincomycin
- other ingredients in the product (see The ingredients in DALACIN C PHOSPHATE are)
To help avoid side effects and ensure proper use, talk to your healthcare professional before you take DALACIN C PHOSPHATE. Talk about any health conditions or problems you may have, including if you:

- are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. DALACIN C PHOSPHATE can cross the placenta and harm your unborn baby.
- are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed
- are taking primaquine for an enzyme deficiency called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD). You need to have routine blood tests, to monitor for potential blood changes.
Other warnings you should know about:
DALACIN C PHOSPHATE contains benzyl alcohol which may be harmful to newborns and children up to 3 years old.
Breastfeeding:

If your baby shows any signs, talk to your healthcare professional and to your baby’s healthcare professional.
Clostridium difficile colitis (bowel inflammation):
DALACIN C PHOSPHATE can cause infections of the colon caused by a bacteria called Clostridium difficile. If you experience diarrhea or other symptoms of colitis, talk to your healthcare professional. See the Serious side effects and what to do about them table, below for more information about this and other serious side effects.
Long-term use of DALACIN C PHOSPHATE:
If you are going to be given DALACIN C PHOSPHATE for an extended period of time your healthcare professional will do blood tests to monitor your liver and kidneys. They will also check your red and white blood cells. It is important that you see your healthcare professional regularly. Long term use may make you more susceptible to other infections that do not respond to DALACIN C PHOSPHATE.
Tell your healthcare professional about all the medicines you take, including any drugs, vitamins, minerals, natural supplements or alternative medicines.
