What is MIEBO used for?

MIEBO is used for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. Dry eye disease happens when your eyes are not making enough tears or your tears are not normal.

How does MIEBO work?

MIEBO stabilizes your eye’s tear film. This helps to reduce evaporation.

What are the ingredients in MIEBO?

Medicinal ingredients: perfluorohexyloctane

Non-medicinal ingredients: none

MIEBO comes in the following dosage forms:

Ophthalmic solution (eye drops), 100% w/w perfluorohexyloctane

Do not use MIEBO:

  • if you are allergic to perfluorohexyloctane

To help avoid side effects and ensure proper use, talk to your healthcare professional before you take MIEBO. Talk about any health conditions or problems you may have, including if you:

  • have a history of other eye conditions, previous eye injuries, or have dry eye disease as a result of other eye conditions.
  • are pregnant, think you are pregnant, or plan to become pregnant.

  • are breastfeeding, or plan to breastfeed.

Other warnings you should know about:

  • Your vision may get blurry while using MIEBO. Wait until your vision is clear before driving or using machines.

  • If you get an eye or a body infection, your healthcare professional should tell you to stop taking MIEBO until the infection is healed.
  • You may have an allergic reaction while taking MIEBO. If you have side effects related to an allergic reaction (such as a fever, skin rash, itching, and shortness of breath), your healthcare professional should tell you to stop taking MIEBO.

Tell your healthcare professional about all the medicines you take, including any drugs, vitamins, minerals, natural supplements or alternative medicines.

Repeat steps 1 - 4 for the second affected eye.

  • Wash your hands before each use.
  • Do not touch the tip of the bottle to the eye or any other surface. This helps avoid eye injury or contamination of the solution in the bottle.

Usual dose:

  • MIEBO is for use in the eyes only.
  • Apply one drop of MIEBO four times daily into each affected eye.
  • If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using MIEBO. Do not wear contact lenses while you are taking MIEBO. You may wear contact lenses 30 minutes after you take MIEBO.

Overdose:

If you think you, or a person you are caring for, have taken too much MIEBO contact a healthcare professional, hospital emergency department, or regional poison control centre immediately, even if there are no symptoms.

Missed dose:

If you forget to apply your eye drops at your normal time, apply them as soon as you remember. Then go back to the original schedule as directed by the label. Don’t try to catch up on missed drops by applying more than one dose at a time.
