WARNINGS

The use of corticosteroid ophthalmic drops during pregnancy or in infants should be avoided.

PRECAUTIONS

Fungal infection must be suspected in any persistent corneal ulceration where a steroid has been used or is in use. Increased intraocular pressure may develop following extended ophthalmic use of corticosteroid. Since increased intraocular pressure can lead to loss of vision, ophthalmic administration should be used only under adequate tonometric supervision in patients known to have glaucoma or have family history of glaucoma.

As with adrenal corticosteroids, prednisolone sodium phosphate may mask, activate or enhance infection. If there is a possibility of infection, supplemental therapy

RENSEIGNEMENTS POSOLOGIQUES

CONTRE-INDICATIONS

  • Affections virales de la cornée et de la conjonctive ; tuberculose oculaire; affections fongiques de l’œil, infections aigues et purulentes de l’œil non traitées qui, à l’instar d’autres infections causées par des microorganismes, peuvent être masquées ou aggravées par un corticostéroïde;
  • Herpès simplex, varicelle et vaccine;

with suitable antibiotic agents should be considered. If the infection does not respond promptly, the corticosteroid should be discontinued until the infection has been adequately controlled by other measures. Patients should be advised to inform their physicians of any prior use of corticosteroids.

ADVERSE REACTIONS

Extended ophthalmic use of corticosteroid drugs may cause an increased intraocular pressure in certain individuals and in those diseases causing a thinning of the cornea, perforation has been known to occur.

The appearance of ocular herpes simplex has been reported in patients taking corticosteroid systemically or locally in the eye for other conditions.

Posterior sub-capsular cataracts, glaucoma with optic nerve damage have been reported following the use of corticosteroids. Rarely, filtering blebs have been reported when topical steroids have been used following cataract surgery. Stinging and burning of the eye have been reported.
